Hi guys!!
It's been a while since I've written a blog for you guys so here's what you missed:
-I graduated College (YAY) CSULB c/o 2017 🎉
-I studied abroad again: Hamburg, Germany
-I traveled Europe with my best friend!
My eyes have seen and my ears have heard some amazing things these past few months. In order to properly re assimilate into real life and reflect on these experiences, it helps to write. I know that always to be true for myself and it's about time I listen! SO I figured I'd start with the place I know most of you will want to know about and the place I get asked the most questions about: Italy. Italy is an insanely beautiful country filled with many niches and crevices of creativity. I could go on for days about the beauty and the way it captivated our hearts, but for now let's start with Venice.

Venezia, as they call it,
a city of endless canals and waterways filled with hopeful dreamers. The minute we got to the center of Venice we fell in love. The smell of pasta and endless site of gelato on every corner, what more can you ask for? Now this isn't the case for everyone, just like coffee isn't for everyone (wrong) but still their choice, teehee. If you love italian food, beautiful views, small town vibes and culture, this place is for you.
What you need to do on your visit:
1.) Gondola Ride
This is a must do in a city known for it's canals. They usually offer a smaller package for about 80 euros as well as bigger package for about 100 euros to see more. Now if you plan to be there with a few people this is NOT bad, split the cost. Always see more. We got on right at San Marco square. We had the greatest gondola man who gave us some great tips on local places! Because of him we found a great wine and appetizer location where you can stop in for wine and appetizer of your choice for about 5 euros. WHAT? so good. We ended up running into him there later and thanked him for helping us out. The best places you find in these cities are from the people who know it best.
- GELATO
Need i say more?
- Carbonara Pasta
Venice is known for their carbonara pasta sauce. They make it specifically out of egg and it does NOT disappoint. Creamy, garlicy goodness. Go!
Venice is surrounded by smaller islands on each side.We had a few days so we decided to go to the vibrantly colored island of Burano. Now for this one you have to take a short boat ride to get to the`island. (about an hour or so). When we went it decided to pour rain on us but once we hit the island (God is Good) it stopped raining. It was so perfect because we got to enjoy some of the local food while the sprinkles slowed down. As soon as we finished the sun popped out! The island is small so within a few hours you can walk and explore it. Check out Instagram or the photo I took above for an idea of how vibrant the colors are! I mean, wow, they were beautiful. It's definitely a must-see! Throughout the shops you can also see all the local glass and silk makers. So much talent on such a small island!
Where to Stay:
Depending on your budget, there are several places you can stay in Venice. We were lucky enough to stay at Generator Venice. Generator is a chain of hostels throughout Europe known for it's great service and exceptional quality. Our Hostel was right on the water front just a ferry away (three minutes across the water) from the city center. It was completely affordable and conveniently located. I mean, we didn't even feel like it was a "hostel." I've said it before and i'll say it again, don't cling to the stigma of hostels! Come to the Generator for a slice of local music, culture, and a melting pot of travelers like yourself from all over the world.
Check out hostelworld.com for more info.
If you have more money check out some hotels in San Marco.
Other than mentioned above, all you can do after this is walk and explore Venice. Talk to locals, stop in pastry shops, find the small restaurants and dive in. Every little corner tells a story of a time long past. Pack on the sunscreen, bring your camera, and prepare your tummy for some yummy food. If you're anything like us, you'll find yourself saying "I miss Venice.." for days, even months following.
Please comment below + let me know if you have any more specific questions on where to go and what to expect.
xx,
Miranda
