Cancun

Pheeew! It's been a crazy month , but we made it. Adulting is hard guys--but, if you're reading this you agree on the one thing that is an escape to all this: Travel. (and also a looooot alot of coffee). Not to say travel can't be stressful sometimes, (ie: us missing our flight to Cancun due to protests--Thanks Trump. But that's another story for another day). But there's something about travel that transcends all aspects of time and space. Once you touch down, there's that ah-ha moment where nothing else matters. When we landed in Cancun, all the butterflies of being in a new place came rushing in. The wanderlust sets in and a beautiful new adventure begins. With a new trip, you have to accept there's going to be good and bad. With Cancun, I'm happy to report the good far outweighed the bad. Sun, crystal clear blue water, all you can eat tacos and margaritas, I mean come on. Paradise. There were a few things I'd absolutely do again. I know when looking at a trip to Cancun or Cabo it can easily be stressful to see all the packages, excursions and such. So here I'll break it down for you a little bit.

Here's what we did:
1.) Book your hotel & flight together--and yes, absolutely choose the all inclusive option. You'll spend way less money eating at your hotel and getting all you can drink. We stayed at Cancun Bay resort. If you're on a budget it's a good place to stay.

2.) Have a plan. Know where you want to go through your visit. Do research and book the places you really want to go to first. But a lot of things you can decide to do once you get there. For example, Isla Mujeres is a beautiful  island, a 30 minute boat ride from Cancun. We knew we wanted to go there but we didn't know how much we wanted to do. So we hopped on the boat (a $30 dock fee) and decided as we went. We had heard you could rent golf carts so we did that and drove around the whole island--SUPER FUN. Don't forget your license like I did(whooops). It's small, it took us about an hour. But once you're there, there's so many things to do. You can stop at the beaches, walk through the local shops, go snorkeling, ( I highly, HIGHLY, reccomend it. Casa Del Buseo is the place we went through and they let you choose between 1-4 locations to snorkel at. Extremely friendly and exceptional service, I can't wait to go back to them!) , and go to the local excursion parks. We chose one in particular called Garaffon Park. This is where we did Dolphin Discovery as well as ziplining, snorkeling, hammocks, infinity pools, and of course dining. The island is absolutely breathtaking. The bright blue waters, the excursions, the friendly locals, and even the brightly colored iguanas. 10/10 would recommend. DONT miss Isla Mujeres on your trip to Cancun.

3.) Visit the History
The other thing I HIGHLY reccomend on your visit is one of the wonders of the world: Chichen Itza. If you haven't heard of it, it's an ancient Myan Pyramid about two hours outside of Dowtown Cancun. We researched it and came upon LDS Tours Cancun. Carlos was our tour guide and he was phenomenal! With the tour, they pick you up at your hotel in a big spacious SUV and take you on the tour itself. You can choose your own tour and which spots you'd like to visit. We decided on Chichen Itza along with a stop at the Cenotes (Cenotes are natural pools in the earth created by erosion amongst other natural elements), an all you can eat buffet, and a stop in the city of Valladolid. Carlos has a degree in anthropology so he is extremely knowledgeable in the Mayan culture as well as the cities surrounding it. I don't want to give too much away but the tour is PHENOMENAL. I'm a huge history nerd so checking one of the wonders of the world off my list was a dream. The cenotes are breathtaking. You have to climb down stairs to get to them, but you can jump in from different heights and swim around in them. Valladolid is a beautiful little city with brightly colored building surrounding it. A great stop for pictures and a little shopping to support the local businesses. This was honestly the best day of our trip and I was so sad when it concluded.

4.) Explore
Like with any new city, just let yourself wander. Don't be afraid of getting lost. Of course you have to be safe as well as cautious, and knowing the local language helps. If you don't know Spanish, bring someone who does! It'll go a long way. Hop in a taxi, hit the beaches (Playa Delfines: Gorgeous), go to dinner, salsa dance the night away! Immerse yourself in the culture, do not just stay at your resort. The people of Cancun are amazing and hospitable, you will be drawn to it.
