Why taking a break from Social Media Can be Good

isn't this a beautiful view?! you just might miss it if you're looking down at your phone posting that picture on Instagram. we all love our social media these days, but sometimes it can get in the way of us actually living in the moment. Trust me I am very guilty of this, but I've also learned that no single moment lasts forever. The question is do you wanna spend that moment documenting it or really enjoying all that you can from it? When you're traveling it's so hard to not want to take pictures and share with everyone what you're experiencing, and of course there's nothing wrong with that! But we need to make sure that we take a moment to just let everything around us just sink in. Really let the colors, the smells, the sounds just consume you from the inside out. Take it all in. Enjoy that moment where you realize you are standing in history. Or you finally made it to that city on your bucket list. But most importantly take in the moment with other people. It helps to travel with others and sometimes not even say anything at all. Just sharing a space that holds so much relevance in time and history is an amazing feeling. Sometimes words can't ever describe what we're feeling. Sometimes all we can do is breathe in and enjoy the moment and all it has to offer. That moment when you feel like nothing else matters--your past, your mistakes, your fears. You are infinite.
Give yourself a limit. Tell yourself you can only post pictures once a week, or every couple days. I did that in London and it really helped me enjoy the experience and stay somewhat connected at the same time. And this doesn't just have to be when you are abroad. This is true anywhere you go whether it's to the mall or to San Diego for the weekend. I'm not saying we should never post on social media, because how else would we communicate and express ourselves in this day in age? But what I am saying is to not feel the need to update it on the daily. Sometimes it's good to take a break and relieve some pressure on ourselves to maintain our status in society. We may think those things matter so much, but in the end it's moments that matter. Moments with people we love that we will never forget. That's what's important. Because one day, that's all we will have left.
